Brooklyn Creative Market : Crown Hts Sat. 6/4 meet B'Klyn's newest creatives!

This Saturday June 4th on the rooftop of the Brooklyn Children's Museum will host the Brooklyn Creative Market and you should stop by.

Why and What's this? 

It's a gathering of youth entrepreneurs, new and emerging young people from their teens up, who are being granted an opportunity to bring their Fashion, Music, Photography and art in general, to the public and gain valuable business and marketing experience.

The event will feature a youth lead pop up shop for young creative entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services to the world.

50+ creatives will display their work in Art, Fashion, Food, Photography, Music and more.

• Live performances
• Two DJ's
• 50+ vendors
• INteractive activities
• Pitch competition where one  business will win $1,000 for their startup.

For some it will be the first time they're bringing their creativity to the public and for all it will be an incredible boost to confidence and self-determination.

I'm proud to say I helped support this event and as a result 6 of the best entrepreneur's business plans will receive $1000 to act on their ideas.

It's exactly the type of thing many of us talk about, giving real world business opportunity and experience to creative young native Brooklynites in a way that helps them focus and build their future careers.

Kids Get Free Bike Helmets TODAY - Main BPL

Today from 3:30p to 7p (or until supplies runout) Kids will get a free bicycle helmet and fitting at the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.

Day One, Brooklyn Bridge Park

If ever in doubt on how to express joy and fun, check in with a kid. Above, a little girl puts in some Q/C on the lawn opening day of One Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Normally my Bk nature event of choice to start of May is Sakura Matsuri the Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (and it is going on as I write this Sunday afternoon) but yesterday I broke with tradition to take in the newest bit of greenery in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The park is as a sapling to a tree. Much of it isn't complete...

Ponds aren't filled,



bike paths are roped off,

stairs and a granite structure meant to invoke natural rock formations and provide riverside seating offers a sign instead of the full on experience.


What is in effect is the lawn and the location. Situated over a former port authority pier, (which you can see in dozens of old NY movies) I was happily struck by all the new angles I had of old familiar subjects. In that way it reminds me of the long replacement pier built on the west side of the village. That pier extends so far into the Hudson it feels like you can walk to Hoboken, and it offers great views down river.

Similar for the new BK Bridge park, great angles on the Bridge towers. I was also excited to see some serious destro-porn in the form of the old National Building in various stages of destruction.


The space also provides a much needed parallel view back at all those South Street Seaport gawkers.


The work in progress park has a pleasant cozy feel. But bring your sunblock because all the trees at this time are saplings and there is absolute no shade to be found.

And despite all that, I loved it. I'm very excited to see more.

FREE TREES ALL GONE! No Trees Sunday (an update)

I hope you got yours 'cause a lot of people got theirs!

The 2Day free tree giveaway got such a tremendous response there will be no trees to give away on Sunday. In fact the 200 trees given out on Saturday were gone in 2 hours!
